Electrolysis Hair Removal
Electrolysis Hair Removal Treatment Across Nottingham
Electrolysis is a form of permanent hair reduction using electrical current. This method has been used for decades and is the world’s oldest form of permanent reduction. Using a fine needle, we introduce the current directly to the base of the hair follicle and apply the current to cauterise the blood supply that feeds the follicle. This will kill the hair permanently, and it can be used on white, blonde, and other hair colours that don’t respond to laser or IPL.
If you have white or blonde hair and come for a laser consultation, we will usually offer you electrolysis instead, as it is much more effective and proven to work on lighter hair colours.

Pre-treatment Instructions:
- Avoid sun exposure 3-4 weeks before and after treatment
- Tanned skin cannot be treated. If we treat tanned skin, there is a risk of burning, hypopigmentation (white spots), or hyperpigmentation (dark spots), which may not clear for 2-3 months or more.
- It would be best if you avoided bleaching, waxing, plucking, threading, or epilating for four weeks prior to treatment. You may trim hairs, as necessary.
- Please ensure you let the hair grow to at least 3 millimetres long before treatment.
- Ensure the skin is clean, free of deodorants, makeup, moisturisers etc when attending your session.
- Avoid use of retinol, AHAs or exfoliants for 2-3 days prior to treatment.
- Let us know on treatment day if you have changed any medication that you are taking.
What to expect after treatment:
- Immediately after treatment, you may experience erythema (redness) and oedema (swelling) at the treatment site, which may last 2 hours or longer and last 2-3 days. The treated area may feel like sunburn for a few hours after treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyper or hypopigmentation. Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily throughout treatment.
- Do not depilate between sessions (with waxing, plucking, threading, epilating, etc.). Shaving/trimming can be done as often as necessary between treatments, or depilatory creams may be used one week after treatment but must stop at least one week before the next treatment.
- Anywhere from 5 to 14 days after treatment, shedding of the surface hair may occur, which appears as new growth but is not new hair growth. You can clean and remove the hair by washing or wiping the area with a wet cloth or loofa sponge.
- Leave all skin responses alone, they are temporary and will subside.
- Avoid sunbeds and sunbathing, hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, or heavy exercise for 24 hours.
What to use after treatment:
- Makeup may be used immediately after the treatment unless there is epidermal blistering.
- We recommend only Aloe Vera gel or an ice pack after treatment to cool the skin.
- Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily throughout the course of treatment.
- No retinol, AHAs or exfoliation is to be used for 5 days after treatment.
As a reminder, if you do not attend your appointment or cancel/change your appointment with less than 48 hours notice, you will lose one session of your course or your deposit.
