There are 5 different types of peels that help different concerns:
Lactic, Glycolic, Mandelic, Salicylic and Azelaic
Lactic, Glycolic and Mandelic skin peels all contain alpha hydroxy acid, also known as AHAs. AHAs help to activate the skins rejuvenation process as well as increasing collagen and elastin production as well as hydrating the skin and normalising the keratinisation process.
Salicylic and Azeliac acid contain beta hydroxy acid, also known as BHAs. Beta hydroxy acid helps to improve the appearance of acne by penetrating deep into the pores and breaking the bonds that keep the dead cells stuck within which causes the oil build-up and leads to acne. One of the most common types of BHAs used in the beauty industry is Salicyclic acid. This substance is both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and helps to prevent future congestion.
All of these substances have different benefits and unique properties, making them preferable for certain skin types and skin concerns.During an initial consultation with our specialist, we will decide which peel would best treat and improve your concerns, whilst taking into consideration your skin type.
How long does the peel procedure last?
We book a 30-minute appointment, but the peel itself is only on for a maximum of 6 minutes. In subsequent treatments we may layer the peel to get the best results, but it will still only stay on the skin for a very short time.
Is the peel treatment painful?
No, most people find the peels quite comfortable. Everyone feels a different sensation, from nothing at all, to hot, tingly, or itchy, and some can find it uncomfortable
What is the downtime for the peel treatment?
After treatment the skin may respond in one of several ways, depending on which peel we used. Some skins just look youthful, hydrated and bright, while others can look red/pink for several hours or days, and the skin may start to shed after the first day. This flaking/peeling may last up to 5 days, or you may get no flaking at all.
How many peel treatments will I need?
We recommend a course of treatments for best results, usually between 3-6 treatments at 2-4 weekly intervals. But even one treatment with these peels can make a huge difference to your skin.
