How is laser hair removal in Nottingham delivered?

The laser delivers an intense beam of light into the treatment area. This energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and converted into heat. This heat energy then deeply penetrates the hair follicles and destroys the root of the hair whilst the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. During and after the treatment, you may experience some redness; however, this usually only lasts a few minutes but can last a few hours. We offer Aloe Vera gel to purchase at the clinic to help soothe and calm the skin, we can also provide ice packs if needed.

Do I need a laser hair removal consultation?

A patch test and consultation are required for laser hair treatment, which takes about 10 minutes at our Nottingham city centre clinic. During this appointment, our trained and experienced technician will explain exactly how laser hair removal treatment works, you will be able to ask any questions you have about the treatments, a quick patch test will be performed with the laser to ensure no reaction will occur after the treatments and to check your tolerance to the laser therapy. If the outcome is satisfactory and you decide to continue with the treatment, we will be able to commence the treatment in your next session.

How many sessions will I need?

The hairs that are in the active growth phase (anagen) will be destroyed during treatment, but any dormant hairs will regrow. This is why a course of treatment is necessary. Each session, you will have a reduction of hair growth, but how much each time depends on how many hairs are in the active growth phase. We recommend 4-6 weeks between sessions, as this increases the likelihood of treating the hairs in the correct phase and, therefore, seeing an excellent result.

Are the treatments painful?

At our laser hair treatment clinic in central Nottingham, our YAG laser uses a Dynamic Cooling Device, which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of freezing air. The SF LaserMED laser head for hair removal has a cooled treatment head, which will be held over the skin to pre-cool it prior to and during treatment.

This ensures that the treatments will be as comfortable as possible without compromising effectiveness. With the laser, treatments often don’t take very long, and a lot of our Nottingham-based clients have stated that waxing is more painful. During the patch test, you can feel the heat you will experience during treatments.

What are the risks of laser hair reduction and removal?

As with any laser treatment, there are risks and potential side effects. To minimise the risk of adverse reactions, we require our clients to observe the following during a course of treatment:

  • Avoid exposure to sun on treatment areas, sunbeds, and fake tan. If your skin is tanned, we will refuse treatment, as this increases the risk of burning, which could lead to pigmentation changes for up to 3 months.
  • Could you give the area to be treated 24 or less hours before your session?
  • Any tattoos in the treatment area must be covered to avoid burns.
  • Inform us of any change in medication – prescription and non-prescription.

We provide treatment pre- and post-care guidelines, which will be given to you during your consultation. It is extremely important to follow these instructions during your treatment course to prevent any adverse responses.

How long will hair removal treatments take?

The time will vary depending on the area to be treated. For example, a full-body laser treatment session can take up to an hour, depending on body size and pain threshold. Meanwhile, sessions for the upper lip, chin, underarm, or bikini line can take 5-10 minutes. Pleasetioner the exact time we will be bookingthe areas being  your appointment.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Hair growth is reduced after each session, which is given every 4-6 weeks. The amount and effectiveness of the treatments will vary from person to person. We recommend at least six sessions, but most people need 8-12 to see full reduction. If your hair is lighter and finer, it will take longer to see the results. During this time, you will see a hair reduction, with hair growing back patchy and finer than previously.

Treatment will not be as effective on white, blond, or grey hairs, as the laser needs pigmentation in the hair shaft to destroy the follicle. For these coloured hair, we recommend a course of IPL or electrolysis.

Before and aftercare advice

Is essential for ensuring the best results and minimizing any potential risks associated with laser hair removal. Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

Before Laser Hair Removal Treatment:
1. Avoid exposure to the sun on treatment areas, sunbeds, and fake tan. Tanned skin increases the risk of burning and may lead to pigmentation changes for up to 3 months.
2. Refrain from waxing, plucking, or electrolysis at least 6 weeks prior to treatment, as the procedure targets the roots of the hair, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.
3. Shave the area to be treated 24 hours or less before your session.
4. Cover any tattoos in the treatment area to avoid burns.
5. Inform the practitioner of any changes in medication, both prescription and non-prescription.

After Laser Hair Removal Treatment:
1. Avoid sun exposure on treated areas and use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect the skin.
2. Do not use sunbeds or apply fake tan during the course of treatment.
3. Follow any additional post-care guidelines provided by your practitioner.
4. Keep the treated area clean and avoid using harsh chemicals or products that may irritate the skin.
5. If you experience any unusual reactions or have concerns after the treatment, contact your practitioner for advice.

Following these before and aftercare tips can help ensure a successful and safe laser hair removal experience.
